How much time does the Film Promo Course require?

You can expect to spend an average of 8-10 hours per week.

Monday: 1 hour training video
Tuesday: Midweek assignment is due.
Wednesday: 1 hour group call (Project updates with Q&A!)
Thursday-Friday: Work on your project as needed.
Saturday: Main project assignment is due.

Midweek assignments are fairly small, and assignments due at the end of the week are more in-depth.
Attending the live group call on Wednesdays are a big part of the course, but recordings of the call are also available to students.

In the first half of the course you will focus on pre-production and planning for your project. In the second half you are filming and editing, so more time may be needed, but 8-10 hours is still the average.

Is the Film Promo Course a replacement for film school?

That depends on your reason for attending film school. We believe that film school is old school.

With Motion University you will have access to a great online course, and an interactive community. In 8-weeks you will learn the skills needed to launch your career!

Our graduates know how to create projects, not just work on projects, and most are getting paid work within a few months of completing the MU course!

When you take the Film Promo course, you get to make YOUR project for a client with personal coaching along the way!

Do I have to own equipment to take this course?

Yes. Click Here for a list of recommended gear that will allow you to get started without breaking the bank.

REMEMBER – Beg, Borrow, Rent. Renting the gear needed for filming your project is an option.

What if I’m not decided on filmmaking as a career?

MU is designed for anyone pursuing film & video as a career. Be prepared to invest time and financial resources as you get set up along the way. We guide you through creating your short promotional project for a client from start to finish and provide coaching and personal review of your work each week.

I want to work on feature films, why learn how to make promo videos?

You will learn skills through the Film Promo Course that will make you more valuable on bigger projects. More importantly, you can use your skills between the big projects. Most people supplement working on feature films by also working on shorter commercial projects.

TV, short films, promotional media, and feature films all have differences. However, telling a good story and the technical way those stories are told aren’t so different.

Learning how to tell a compelling story in a short amount of time will help you stand out!

We know how difficult it can be to get a job on feature films, and it’s even harder to get a paid position.

Learning how to succeed at smaller projects gives you a safer place to grow and try new ideas, while also making an income.

Can I just watch the lectures without doing the assignments?

No. You must follow the course and complete each quiz to unlock the next week of content.

This course is about comprehending and retaining. Through following all the assignments, you will be better prepared with the skills you need.

You get the most value by following the “live” course schedule. This allows our instructors to review your work and provide feedback. Plus, it helps YOU complete your project in a timely manner! If you have minor scheduling issues during the course, please let us know and we will do our best to help you work around them.

Where is the course held?

You can take the course wherever you are!

The Film Promo Course is an online course. You can view the lectures, communicate with instructors, and submit assignments from anywhere. This allows you to create a promo project for a local client and build relationships in your area!
